Every May a holiday comes around that is very important for Mexico. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration held on May 5 to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
But for Americans, Cinco de Mayo is the perfect excuse for a party and indulging in Mexican food, which is one of my favorites.
Cinco De Mayo in May 2014 was no different. My best friend Zandi Watts prepared for the day by making shirts for us. Her shirt just said “Cinco de Mayo” with pinatas as decorations, but mine said “Juan Direction.” Haha get it? Like the band One Direction. Don’t judge us.
We put some flowers in our hair, found a sombrero, picked up Katie Parham and headed to the party at the home of Adam Watts, Zandi’s brother.
The party was filled with Mexican food, drinks and fun photo props.
We all looked very festive and ready for an afternoon in the backyard celebrating something most of us know very little about.
Adam’s dog Brummy even got in on the celebrating. He likes to pose for pictures.
After a day of celebrating with fun in the sun, I settled down and headed back to Forest City for a dinner at Mi Pueblito with fellow Daily Courier reporter Alyssa Mulliger. But I couldn’t resist throwing on a colorful dress.
I hope all of you girly girls had a great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo as well. And if you didn’t quite get all Cinco de Mayoed out, here’s one more picture of Zandi Watts.
She was really in the Cinco de Mayo spirit.
